[Anthropic] The culture interview is the round nobody preps for, and it fails strong candidates
Did the Anthropic loop recently. Heads up on the 45-min "culture" round: every candidate gets it, every role, every level.
It is NOT a FAANG behavioral. If you walk in with four pre-packaged STAR stories and try to shoehorn them in, you fail. They've basically flagged that as the #1 failure mode. They probe how you actually think and feel about past decisions, not a rehearsed narrative. Felt closer to a deep 1:1 than an interview.
Technically-strong people reportedly bomb this more than any coding round. Don't treat it as the easy one.

Can confirm. I had two clean coding rounds and still got dinged. Feedback was basically "we couldn't get a read on how you actually make decisions." It's real.
Yeah that matches mine exactly. The trap is sounding too rehearsed. They want the messy "here's what I actually thought at the time," including the doubts.
How do you even prep for that without it becoming... another rehearsed story?
Honestly I stopped scripting and just re-read my own past projects until I could talk about the hard tradeoffs from memory. Prep the decisions, not the narration.
